10 NFL backup quarterbacks who can steal starting jobs in 2020

No NFL team wants to experience a quarterback controversy, but any of these 10 backups can steal a starting job during the 2020 season.

Nothing is more important to an NFL franchise than receiving quality play from the quarterback position. In an ideal world, each franchise would enter the 2020 season with a starter capable of holding on to their job for the entire season. Unfortunately for quite a few teams, they enter the season with serious questions at the game’s most important position.

That makes backup quarterback a crucial spot on the roster for most NFL teams. Having a capable second-string signal-caller a quality backup plan at all times. These 10 quarterbacks have a great chance to seize a starting role in 2020.

10 Tua Tagovailoa QB Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins didn’t spend the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 draft on Tagovailoa to give him a full year on the sidelines. He probably won’t unseat Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job before Week 1 arrives, but as soon as he demonstrates a strong grasp of the playbook and a clean bill of health he’s going to seize the team’s starting job.

Miami is fortunate to have a quality player like Fitzpatrick to keep the team afloat while Tagovailoa gets healthy. It’s possible the former Harvard star can keep the team close enough to .500 to keep his job until the halfway point. If Tagovailoa isn’t the team’s starter during the second half of the 2020 season then it’s safe to say something has gone horribly wrong with his development.

It really all boils down to health for Tua. The minute he shows the team’s medical staff that his body is 100% it’s going to be up to the coaching staff to get him ready to play. Fitzpatrick is just keeping the position warm for his talented rookie teammates.
