The Ministry of Health reported that in the last hours, 6 thousand 914 cases confirmed in a single day by COVID-19 were counted.

Mexico registered a new rrecord of infections in one day for coronavirus COVID-19 this Saturday.

The Health Secretary reported that in the last hours, 6 thousand 914 confirmed cases were counted in a single day, and it has accumulated 252 thousand 165 patients since the arrival of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the country at the end of February.

The previous record was from July 2, when federal authorities detailed 6,741 positive cases in a single day.

This Saturday, Mexico added 523 new deaths from COVID-19 to reach 30,366 deaths, which is why it has already exceeded 29,896 in France and climbed to fifth place worldwide in deaths from the pandemic.

Official figures in Mexico have generated controversy since it is the country of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) that fewer COVID-19 tests are performed, so it is estimated that the numbers of both infections and deaths are much higher.

The Mexican undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, defended this Saturday that “it is not necessary to have complete accounting” of these figures to design the health strategy of the Government.

He recalled that a pandemic of these characteristics is an “immeasurable phenomenon”, which cannot be fully measured, so efforts must be focused on observing “patterns such as territorial spread or the speed of change”.
