Getty Newton, Stidham, and Hoyer

Cam Newton inking a deal with the New England Patriots has been all about the former MVP taking over as the starter, but not much discussion has gone into the increased depth his arrival creates.

If Newton does become the starter, the Patriots might have one of the strongest 1-3 depth charts at QB in the NFL.

QB Depth Throughout the NFL

Take a look at the league’s QBs on this chart from Bleacher Report’s Marcus Mosher:

Where Do the Patriots’ QBs Rank?

Quite honestly, the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys have to be considered at the top of the list, but from there, the Patriots could easily be in the next tier. If Newton is healthy, Jarrett Stidham is prepared to at the very least be a professional NFL quarterback, and Brian Hoyer is who he has been throughout his career, I’d put the Patriots at the top of that next group.

Patriots Release Quick Video Of Mondays Training Camp Session

BOSTON (CBS) — Patriots training camp is going to look a whole lot different this year. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we really won’t get much of a look at camp at all.

At least not in person. Luckily, the Patriots will make sure that fans get their fix.

On Monday, the Patriots took the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium for the first time this summer. The team shared a brief video of players putting in some work, including star defensive players Stephon Gilmore and Devin and Jason McCourty.

It isn’t much, and we’re still waiting for our first footage of Cam Newton in a New England uniform, but it’s good to see the Patriots back at work.

Players are now in the “acclimation period” of training camp, which will run through Aug. 11. There will be a ramp-up period from Aug. 12-16, and after that, players will finally engage in contact drills beginning on Aug. 17.
