Should he join the Cherries, however, he will arrive at a club still licking its wounds from relegation back down to the second tier - and losing their manager.
Eddie Howe left the club on Saturday after an eight-year second stint with the club - ending his two-and-a-half decades-long association with the South Coast side.
Upon his departure Howe, 42, said: "Having spent a total of 25 years with the club as both a player and a manager this decision - made together with the club - is one of the hardest I’ve ever had to make.2Eddie Howe's eight-year second stint at the Bournemouth helm came to an end on SaturdayCredit: Reuters Most read in FootballPicturedSOR SUBJECTNeymar's ex-girlfriend Soraja Vucelic almost pops out of dress in steamy selfieWEATHER THE STORMHow Kieron Dyer ended up at Mayweather's mansion with 'women everywhere'Taylor FlayedChelsea target Rice questions Taylor as fans blast 'disgraceful' refereeHANDLE ON THINGSChelsea fans fume after Martinez goes unpunished for 'blatant handball'PicturedTOP FORMBrazil icon Ronaldo soaks up sun with partner Celina Locks on yacht in FormenteraExclusiveEZE WORKWest Ham, Leeds and Crystal Palace told Eberechi Eze will cost at least £20m
“However, although the affection and love I have for this football club will always remain, we collectively feel that now is the right time for the club to go in a new direction.

Man Utd should sign Mario Mandzukic, 34, on free transfer after completing Jadon Sancho deal, urges Owen Hargreaves
FORMER Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has urged Manchester United to sign Mario Mandzukic, 34, on a free transfer.
The former Juventus and Bayern Munich striker was linked with a move to Manchester United in the winter window but instead moved to Qatar.2Mario Mandzukic is a free agent after terminating his contract with Al-DuhailCredit: Getty - Contributor

The Red Devils are close to landing Jadon Sancho in a record £110million deal.
There has been a breakthrough in negotiations as the Red Devils have forced the Germans into accepting staggered payments, with £70m up front - but the deal could still wipe out most of their summer budget.
And boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told United chief Ed Woodward that he'd like a new winger, centre-back and striker as part of a summer transfer splurge.2
However, while Hargreaves agrees the club need a centre forward, he reckons Solskjaer can save his funds by landing free agent Mandzukic.
The former Bayern Munich ace said: "Defensively they were one of the better teams in the league, but in terms of goalscoring they were way behind Liverpool and City,
"You can do with a 20-goal scorer but I think I’d take Jadon [Sancho] first and then maybe get Mandzukic on a free."
Mandzukic has also been linked with a move back to Italy, with AC Milan reportedly interested. Most read in FootballPicturedGEORGEOUS Georgina Rodriguez puts on VERY racy display in tiny black lace bodysuitLIL ISSUEBoris Becker's estranged wife begs his new girlfriend to 'step away from my son'Pictured'hands off'Boris Becker's girlfriend back at beach with son despite warning from mum Lillycrackers for pollyWho is Pollyanna Woodward? It is understood San Siro bosses see Mandzukic the veteran striker as a direct replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Old Trafford's funds have been boosted after they finally managed to offload Sanchez, after Inter Milan took him off their hands on Wednesday night.
