The New York Yankees won their fifth game in a row, this one off the Boston Red Sox.

With a combination of Gold Glove type defense and show of power. Last night was pretty much the Gio Urshela show. The Yankees won last night’s game 5-2.

Masahiro Tanaka took the mound for the Yankees. Tanaka had a horrible record last season against the Red Sox; he gave up 22 earned runs in just three starts.  Giving up the home run early in the game has been a problem for Tanaka. The Yankees had hope in the game as Tanaka didn’t allow the Red Sox a run in spring training.

Tanaka looked good in his first inning when he struck out two and got a fly out to Aaron Judge. Aaron Judge had gotten a home run in three consecutive games coming into last night, and he didn’t disappoint. At the bottom of the frame, Judge hit a monster blast far up into the first deck of left field for a career record four home runs in consecutive games.

At the bottom of the second, Gary Sanchez finally got his first hit of the season to load the bases with no outs.  Last year’s sensation Gio Urshela stepped up to the plate and hit a 412′ Grand Slam into Yankee Stadium’s Monument Park netting, making it Yankees 5-0 in the first inning.

In the top of the third with the Red Sox got a hit to load the bases and two runs scored on a bobbled catch at second by Gleyber Torres. That would be the end of the scoring for the Red Sox and the end of Masahiro’s Tanaka first start of the year.  Tanaka was coming back from being hit in the head back on July 4th with a comebacker from fellow teammate Giancarlo Stanton. Luis Avilan closed out the inning for Tanaka and pitched a scoreless fourth.

The biggest surprise in the game was the appearance of Nick Nelson in the fifth inning, making his major league debut. Many fans had never heard of the New York Yankee pitcher that had been signed back in 2016.  Last season he pitched for Tampa, Trenton, and Scranton Wilkes/Barre with an 8-3 record. Last night he dazzled Yankee fans, he struck out the first man he faced in just three pitches and went on to pitch three scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts.

David Hale came in and pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning.  Nick Nelson got the win, and David Hale his third save of his career.  Godley took the loss for the Red Sox.

So far in the season, the Yankees are now MLB leaders with 6 wins.  Seventy percent of their runs scored have come by the home run.  Sunday, the Yankees will try for their second sweep of the season at the Stadium at 7:08 pm.  James Paxton will face the Red Sox’s, Austin Brice.

White Sox GM Rick Hahn Hopes Nick Madrigal Can Be Back By Months End After Injury

CHICAGO (CBS) — The White Sox’ Nick Madrigal has a separated left shoulder and is headed to the injured list.

General Manager Rick Hahn is hopeful that Madrigal can be back by the end of the month, but he may need offseason surgery.

Meanwhile, Edwin Encarnación is day-to-day after suffering a shoulder injury.

But the Sox have still won six straight.

“We haven’t had our lineup that we projected out to have for long-term out there yet this season due to the injuries. So I do think even as fine as an offensive unit as we’ve had so far, I think we need a little bit more dangerous, certainly in the coming years if not at some point over the course of the 2020 season,” Hahn said.
