Tennis :

Facing the young Czech nugget Brenda Fruhvirtova, Alizé Cornet did not lose his means and, at the end of the third quarter, validated his ticket for the final of UTS 2.

After a first 100% men’s edition, the Ultimate Tennis Showdown opened its doors to women’s tennis with four players entering the semi-finals stage.

For this tournament, Patrick Mouratoglou wanted to highlight a young shoot, victorious in the 2020 edition of the “Little As” tournament, the Czech Brenda Fruhvirtova. Only 13 years old, “The Prodigy” faced Alizé Cornet in the first semi-final of UTS 2 but, unsurprisingly, the experience of “The Volcano” made the difference.

The Frenchwoman quickly made the difference in each of the first two quarters (16-11, 16-10) before easing off a little against an opponent with her back to the wall, who had nothing more to lose. Brenda Fruhvirtova raised her level of play but failed to change the meaning of the game. Alizé Cornet completed this match in the third quarter (13-12) and will face this Sunday in the final Ons Jabeur or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

The lava is flowing ????

The Volcano clinches the win 3-0 against Brenda Fruhvirtova.

Credits to the 13-year-old prodigy who kept up the level from the start, pushing @alizecornet to the limit.#UTShowdown

Mouratoglou launches UTS

Patrick Mouratoglou is launching a new Tennis League.

We already know nine players who will participate in this new competition. Mouratoglou wanted players with strong character, he will be served.

After more than three months without a game to chew on, UTS will allow fans to enjoy themselves again.

A new format

No more extended sets, the new format provides for 10-minute quarters. There will be a fifth in the event of a tie.

Let go !

The goal of the game is obviously not to highlight the farting lead but rather to let the players express themselves more. New players aren’t any smoother, it’s the rules that are tougher.

A good atmosphere

The goal is to mix the atmosphere of an exhibition with the quality of the game.

Pair, it sticks

Benoît Paire, with his strong character and his racket qualities in hand, perfectly matches the desired profile.

Fans will vote

To involve fans even more, they will have the right to vote for the bonus-malus through Twitter.

Coaching is allowed

Players will be able to receive valuable advice from their coach during the matches.

Shorter matches

The new game format will no longer allow extended matches. The example of Mahut and Isner is deliberately excessive but symbolic of a new era.

Bonuses and penalties

Bonuses and penalties are new and will allow players to add spice to the game.

Microphones on the players

All players will wear microphones on them so that everything they say can be heard …

Submissions for new Mississippi state flag include Elvis Presley

Nearly 2,700 public proposals to replace Mississippi’s state flag have been released online — including some that feature beer cans, Elvis Presley and Kermit the Frog.

The nine-member Commission to Redesign the Mississippi State Flag will now each choose 25 of their favorite submissions by Friday, narrowing the potential field to a maximum of 225 entries, Mississippi Department of Archives and History spokesman Michael Morris said. In total, 2,693 total submissions were received by the MDAH, which posted the submissions on its website Monday.

The eventual replacement for the Confederate battle flag — which had been widely condemned as racist and was retired last month — cannot include the Confederate symbol and must feature the phrase “In God We Trust,” the MDAH said.

The commission will then have to rank its collective top ten choices before a meeting on Aug. 14, when five final designs will be approved and put on MDAH’s website for public comment, Morris said.

The commission then plans to make its final decision on Sept. 2 before it goes to voters statewide on the Nov. 3 ballot.

In addition to submissions featuring Presley — a nod to his birthplace, as well as that of Muppets creator Jim Henson — some of the proposed designs were drawn by children and many featured the magnolia blossom, the state’s official flower, the Clarion Ledger reports.

Others incorporated blue lines that may harken the Mississippi River, contained references to college football, or read “In Allah We trust,” the newspaper reports.
