President Donald Trump has abruptly walked out of a press conference after a reporter fact-checked him on his dubious claim about signing a 'Veteran's Choice' bill. Trump was taking questions from the press at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey after signing four executive orders on Saturday when CBS News White House correspondent Paula Reid pressed him. 'Why do you keep saying that you passed Veterans Choice?' Reid asked. She was referring to Trump's earlier remark: 'I just signed two great bills for our veterans. We passed Veteran's Choice and Veteran's Accountability.' Getty There will likely be a second round of COVID-19 stimulus checks. President Donald Trump held a press conference on August 8 to announce that he was signing four executive orders designed to help provide relief to Americans struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, none of them provide stimulus checks directly to Americans. Trump did mention stimulus checks a couple times in the press conference. You can read those mentions later in this story. That’s likely to disappoint a lot of people whose hopes grew that Congress would provide them with a second COVID-19 stimulus check. That was actually the one area that Republicans and Democrats in Congress said they agreed on: Providing another $1,200 check to qualifying...
Getty Trump signing the stimulus executive orders. President Donald Trump held a far-ranging press conference on August 8 in which he announced that he had signed four executive orders designed to give Americans COVID-19 stimulus relief but that raised serious separation of powers questions relating to limitations of presidential authority. The orders did not contain stimulus checks to Americans. The orders extended extra unemployment benefits at the amount of $400 a week (as opposed to the $600 they were before), suspended rental and home evictions and student loan payments, and deferred the payroll tax for people making less than $100,000. The president also took a swipe at his Democratic presidential opponent Joe Biden, championed voter ID, said...
President Donald Trump abruptly left his Saturday press conference after reporters grilled him on the executive orders he had signed that would bypass Congress, and false statements he made regarding assistance for veterans. “When will this relief get in the hands of Americans that need it? What date?,” a press pool reporter asked Trump. He responded, “We think it’s going to be rapid, we wanted to be very rapid. It will be distributed in a way, whichever the fastest way, there are various methods. It will be rapidly distributed.” The reporter continued adding, ” You are expecting legal challenges with this —” “I didn’t say that,” Trump said interrupter her. “What I said is, people can do whatever they...

By Michael Hurley, CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — Longtime Patriots special teams captain Devin McCourty spoke to the media on Sunday afternoon for his first “press conference” — via video chat — with the New England media. He was not messing around. The video chat began with a question about whether or not McCourty has made his final decision on playing or opting out for the 2020 season. With eight teammates already opting out, and with three Super Bowl victories on his resume, it would seemingly be sensible for the 32-year-old to potentially skip the season or even retire. McCourty, respectfully, did not care to answer the question so much as he sought to speak on a few topics that he...

Maybe it would’ve made a difference if there had been a star-spangled press conference at Madison Square Garden or up at the Knicks’ headquarters in Westchester. Maybe in those usual confines, bedecked in a nice suit, freed to use his dais as a bully pulpit, Tom Thibodeau would’ve carried the day with oration and charm. Although, honestly, that doesn’t quite seem to be Thibodeau’s genre. In a lot of ways, then, this was a perfect way for Thibodeau to say hello in the summer of 2020, on a Zoom call, in a Knicks golf shirt, a Brady Bunch square on a computer screen with castmates Leon Rose and Scott Perry. It is impossible to win the press conference when that...
Claiming at Thursday's White House briefing that the 2020 elections could be "fixed" and "rigged," President Trump again highlighted the risks of nationwide, universal mail-in balloting in stark terms -- including by citing news articles and experts who have raised similar concerns. Before taking questions, Trump honored former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, noting that "unfortunately, he passed away from a thing called the China virus." Trump additionally hit Democrats' plans to keep schools and busniesses closed, saying they would cause "probably more death" and economic destruction than coronavirus itself. Within seconds, Trump was pressed on his tweet earlier in the day that suggested the election could be delayed due to mail-in ballot fraud. He responded that delays in mail-in ballot results, including lost...

(CNN)President Donald Trump is set to take the briefing room podium for another press conference, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, his second in as many days. Trump resumed the coronavirus briefings Tuesday after discontinuing them in April, when he declared them a waste of time. Tuesday's briefing, which came amid surging coronavirus cases and dropping poll numbers, was somber in tone and the President appeared to largely stick to his script. President Trump is expected to hold a press conference Tuesday as dozens of states and the District of Columbia experience a rise in coronavirus infections. The briefing is expected to be about the worsening crisis and comes the day after the president announced he would revive White House coronavirus task force briefings, which were a near-daily staple throughout much of March and into April before tapering off as White House events focused on resurrecting the ailing economy. The president told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday that the briefings were likely to resume Tuesday around 5 p.m., which he said is a "good slot" that drew lots of viewers. His press conference Tuesday is scheduled to be held...

President Donald Trump unleashed a torrent of criticism at the White House against former Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday. “Joe Biden’s entire career has been a gift to the Chinese Communist Party,” Trump said. The president spoke during an evening press conference in the White House Rose Garden on China. “Joe Biden and President Obama freely allowed China to pillage our factories, plunder our communities, and steal our most precious secrets,” Trump said. But Trump’s criticism of the former Vice President did not stop at China. The president repeatedly referred to a list of Biden’s policy proposals on several issues, including infrastructure, immigration, energy, law enforcement, and education. “This is Biden. Biden’s gone radical left,” Trump said. Trump ridiculed Biden...

We want strong closed borders with people able to come in through merit, through a legal process. They don't want to have any borders at all. They're going to rip down the wall." Trump's speech was explicitly partisan and directly advocated for his reelection. President Donald Trump clearly misses holding rallies filled with thousands of his fawning supporters hanging on his every self-aggrandizing word. So on Tuesday, at a press event ostensibly staged to discuss his new executive order withdrawing recognition of Hong Kong as independent from China, he decided to indulge himself by launching into a meandering campaign-style monologue for the reporters in attendance. He leaped from topic to topic, sometimes in a single run-on sentence, and often failed to complete thought. He took aim at his election opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden, attacking a laundry list of the Democrat’s policies that he twisted and distorted. Recalling a campaign theme he has long ignored, Trump called out Biden’s son, saying: “Where’s Hunter?”...

President Donald Trump is holding a press conference in the White House Rose Garden on Tuesday afternoon. According to multiple reports, the press conference will focus largely on China. But if he takes questions, Trump will undoubtedly be confronted about a number of remarks he made in a CBS interview – of which excerpts have just been released. Notably, the president scolded CBS’ Catherine Herridge for asking what he deemed to be a “terrible question” when she quizzed Trump as to why “African-Americans still dying at the hands of law enforcement in this country?” “So are white people,” Trump replied. “So are white people. President Trump will hold a press conference in the Rose Garden Tuesday at 5 p.m., the White House announced, and a source familiar with the matter said the president will use the opportunity to discuss China during the event. The press conference also comes as the president pushes forward with his campaign to reopen schools in the fall, while some states face a spike in coronavirus. It wasn't immediately clear what the president might discuss regarding China. But the Trump administration has ramped up pressure on China for its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
