Chris Christie is being lined up to stand in for Joe Biden as President Trump and his campaign team prepare for this year’s election debates four years after he took on the role of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton last time around. Details emerged from a meeting held two weeks ago at the president’s Bedminster golf club in New Jersey as some of his closest advisers gathered to game out their debate strategy. Axios reported that Trump met with son-in-law Jared Kushner, campaign manager Bill Stepien, senior adviser Jason Miller, and Christie. They reportedly agreed to meet at least every 10 days ahead of the first debate, which is scheduled for the end of September at Case...

Jim Watson/Getty Images Axios is out with a sneak peak at President Donald Trump’s debate prep team, which assembled at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey two weeks ago as the showdown with Democratic candidate Joe Biden approaches. According to Axios reporters Jonathan Swan and Alexi McCammond, the small team included Trump’s new 2020 campaign manager, Bill Stepien, senior adviser Jason Miller, as well as two old foes: Jared Kushner and Chris Christie. (You might recall that — according to Christie — Kushner had him sacked as head of Trump’s transition team following the 2016 election, over a long running feud sparked by former U.S. attorney Christie prosecuting his father, Charles Kushner, for witness tampering.) NEW YORK (AP/CBS) — Presumptive democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is expected to announce his running mate soon. For all the secrecy and speculation that typically surrounds the search for a vice presidential candidate, the decision rarely sways an election. But ahead of Joe Biden’s imminent announcement, this year could be different. At a minimum, the decision will shift the force of the campaign — at least temporarily — away from Donald Trump’s turbulent presidency onto Biden himself. That’s not a place many Democrats are comfortable given Biden’s proclivity for gaffes and the persistent lack of excitement behind his candidacy. More fundamentally, the choice offers Biden an unusual opportunity to unify a party still reeling from Trump’s 2016 win and solidify its future. He’s...

The nation's top modeler of hurricanes and tropical storms is predicting more disastrous weather than ever before during what has already been a stressful year for many. Analysts with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Thursday that they expect 19 to 25 named storms with wind speeds greater than 39 mph. The organization included a prediction that seven to 11 of those storms will turn into hurricanes, which would make this year among the most active seasons in U.S. history. "This year, we expect more, stronger, and longer-lived storms than average, and our predicted ACE range extends well above NOAA's threshold for an extremely active season," said Gerry Bell, a seasonal hurricane forecaster with the NOAA's Climate Prediction Center....

Forecasters expect the Labor Department to report that about 1.6 million jobs were added to payrolls in July and that the unemployment rate dropped to 10.6% from June’s 11.1%. Before the pandemic, 1.6 million new jobs in a month would have been a record. Given the cataclysmic job separations of the spring, however, it would suggest that the recovery has fallen off the pace needed to return the labor market back to normal and avoid a deep and lasting recession. In comparison, 5 million jobs were created in May and June. It's also possible that job creation has stalled out. Payroll processor ADP reported on Wednesday that just 167,000 jobs were created in July. The company reported that more...

LONDON (AP) – The Bank of England left its benchmark interest rate at a record low of 0.1 per cent on Thursday as it expressed caution about how rapidly the United Kingdom’s economy will recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. The bank also left its target for buying government and corporate bonds unchanged at 745 billion pounds ($980 billion). The decision to hold off more stimulus was widely expected as the uncertainty over the pandemic could require more action later, economists say. New figures due next week are expected to show the economy contracted almost 19 per cent in the second quarter from the previous three-month period. That would be better than the central bank’s forecast in May for a 25...

Chris Bassitt slots in nicely into a rotation thats just starting to step into quality start territory. A federal prosecutor said Wednesday that his office does not intend to charge family members of Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar, identifying them as witnesses rather than targets of the ongoing pay-to-play probe. Three members of the Huizar family — his wife Richelle, his mother Isidra and his brother Salvador — are mentioned repeatedly in the 113-page indictment against the councilman, who has pleaded not guilty to bribery, money laundering, racketeering and other charges. Prosecutors have alleged that Huizar family members laundered his bribe proceeds, receiving cash from the councilman and then paying his bills. They also claimed that Huizar’s wife, who has not been named by prosecutors but is easily identifiable from details in the criminal complaint...
It’s been a rough couple of years for Green Bay Packers and their supporters. Aaron Rodgers led his team to the NFC Championship game last year. However, he failed to lead his team to the Super Bowl game as they fell to a 37-20 loss at the hands of Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers. One of the major criticism directed at the Packers was their lack of depth in the wideout department. The Packers were expected to strengthen in that regard this offseason. They were rumored to have been in contact with a number of rookie wide receivers that appeared in the 2020 NFL draft. However, the Mark Murphy-led organization opted to trade up and bring in rookie quarterback –...

Unfortunately, that includes municipal jobs, which some see as protected during tough times. However, local governments are working to make up for current expected budget shortfalls, and positions that had been considered stable in the future might be affected. “The economy remains in a...

PHOTO VIA TAMPA GENERAL HOSPITAL/FACEBOOKMedicaid enrollment will balloon by more than 14 percent during the state’s current fiscal year, with economists predicting an average monthly enrollment of 4.36 million people. The economists, who met last week to discuss the enrollment trends amid the COVID-19 pandemic, did not estimate the costs associated with the surge in enrollment. They will meet Thursday to look at the financial impact. But Agency for Health Care Administration Secretary Mary Mayhew predicted last month that there would be a "gap, perhaps significant” between what lawmakers budgeted for Medicaid and the projected costs.  And it's not just increased enrollment that will drive costs, she said. Mayhew predicted that Medicaid providers on the front lines of the COVID-19...
