Princes William and Harry are working towards mending the 'hurtful' rift that has all but torn the once-inseparable brothers apart, the author of a new biography about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has claimed.  Carolyn Durand, who co-authored Finding Freedom alongside royal correspondent Omid Scobie, spoke to the Today show about some of the revelations within its pages, and opened up about what caused Harry, 35, and his brother William, 38, to fall out.  According to Durand, the rift between the two brothers began in 2016, when Harry and Meghan first started dating - and was sparked by a conversation during which William urged his younger brother to slow the romance down and to 'take some more time getting...
Massive 'terror crocodiles' roamed the earth at least 75 million years ago, but have remained a mystery among the scientific community – until now. Palaeontologist examined fossilized jaws belonging to a number of Deinoschus, revealing the beasts had teeth 'the size of bananas' with crushing power to take down even the largest dinosaurs. The remains suggest these creatures had a long, broad snout, with an inflated area around the nose, which has not been seen in any other crocodilian – neither living nor extinct. The team believes Deinoschus terrorized unsuspecting creatures that came to the water's edge to drink, deeming them opportunistic predators. On May 2, 2020, Monokh, a security researcher reported a vulnerability in Bitcoin-derived applications (Litecoin, Dogecoin … list available HERE) that could be used to trick users into signing a transaction for a different cryptocurrency than the one for which they want to sign. By exploiting this vulnerability, a malicious person could for example make the user sign a Bitcoin transaction when they think they are signing a Dogecoin transaction. “The Ledger Nano S and the Nano X are hierarchical deterministic (HD) portfolios. This means that they can derive different crypto secrets from a single seed from the 24 word recovery phrase that users write on their recovery sheet. Nearly 2,700 public proposals to replace Mississippi’s state flag have been released online — including some that feature beer cans, Elvis Presley and Kermit the Frog. The nine-member Commission to Redesign the Mississippi State Flag will now each choose 25 of their favorite submissions by Friday, narrowing the potential field to a maximum of 225 entries, Mississippi Department of Archives and History spokesman Michael Morris said. In total, 2,693 total submissions were received by the MDAH, which posted the submissions on its website Monday. The eventual replacement for the Confederate battle flag — which had been widely condemned as racist and was retired last month — cannot include the Confederate symbol and must feature the phrase “In God We Trust,”...

The burgundy Oldsmobile sped through an intersection in a tree-lined residential neighborhood on Minneapolis’ North Side, and Lisa Williams shook her head in disgust. “Look at this,” she said, surrounded by four of her young grandchildren on the short stoop of her home. “They ride as fast as they can right down through here with no regard for the children.” It is in such moments — when she is reminded of the many dangers in her community, from speeding cars to gunshots — that Williams, 50, would welcome the presence of police. But then she recalls the time several years ago when she and her husband arrived home to find several police vehicles parked on their front lawn. Officers told...

Coronavirus had yet to be detected in Minnesota on March 3, Super Tuesday, when Minnesotans went to the polls for the state’s presidential primary. On Aug. 11, a week from today, some Minnesotans — at least those who aren’t among the record number to have already cast a mail-in ballot (or are planning to do so) — will once again go to the polls, this time to vote in primaries for local, legislative and congressional seats.  But the experience will be a lot different this time around. Because of COVID-19, masks will be required inside polling locations. Poll workers will be sanitizing everything from voting booths to pens between use. And social distancing will be observed, which could cause lines...

The email from the Trump campaign reads, “We are all in this together, and while I know there has been some confusion surrounding the usage of face masks, I think it’s something we should all try to do when we are not able to be socially distanced from others.” “I don’t love wearing them...

Absolutely nothing,“ said 63-year-old Wright of Redwood City, despite testing positive for the virus – 40 days, straight — after being exposed aboard the Diamond Princess cruise last February. Seven months into a pandemic that has killed more than 667,000 people globally, scientists are searching for clues into why infected people like Wright feel just fine. Understanding the mystery of their protection may help suggest targets for vaccines and treatment. These cases also underscore...

I can’t help but wonder if by keeping a mask on and keeping it in place, if I might have put some germs, some of the virus onto the mask and breathed it in. So that is a less than positive development.” Cruz made the comment during a discussion about Trump’s influence on the Republican Party. On the bright side, Cruz said, Trump had transformed the GOP into “the party of working men and women,” which was was why he was able to win Rust Belt states including Michigan and Pennsylvania. “That’s why he came within...
Questions remain over who is organizing the crowds that have filled Portland’s streets for more than 60 consecutive nights since the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Demonstrators have thrown fireworks and Molotov cocktails over a fence where federal officers are embedded to protect the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse. On Monday night, an incendiary device thrown by someone in the crowd of hundreds exploded outside the courthouse “causing a report to be heard and felt more than a block away,” according to the Portland Police Bureau. Federal officers responded by issuing warnings over megaphones, directing crowds to disperse before firing riot ammunition, pepper balls and CS gas. Since early in the COVID-19 pandemic, California health officials have required nursing homes to bar entry to outsiders who might bring the coronavirus in with them and trigger a deadly outbreak among the elderly, vulnerable residents. As a result, aging parents haven’t seen their families in months. Many have died without a final embrace from the people they loved. (CNN)The plan to reopen US schools has shifted several times throughout the summer as coronavirus cases have surged. Many major school districts are refusing to reopen, some even defying state guidelines, until coronavirus cases begin to drop. For those offering hybrid learning, or some in-person, some online classes, parents usually have the option to opt out and enroll their child in all online classes for the rest of the school year. The plans below could change again based on ever-changing pandemic trends. Here's what some of the US' largest school districts are planning when schools resume classes. This being the internet, I suppose I should say right up front that the title of this post is sarcastic. It is facially obvious that no one who wants to learn anything about actual science should look to the way New York has responded to this pandemic. However, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo — whose state has had by far the worst coronavirus response by any objective measure has taken to lecturing other public leaders (including Republican governors and President Trump) about the need to let science be the sole guide of public policy when handling the coronavirus. The implication of this ridiculous horn tooting is that Cuomo himself has done nothing but follow science since the pandemic...
Taco Bell is getting rid of quite a few menu items amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The popular fast food giant Taco Bell is making news this week after they confirmed rumors that they are retiring some of their popular menu items that have been around for years. Among some of the foods to be removed are the 7-Layer Burrito, Potato Bites and Loaded Grillers, according to ABC News 13. Like many restaurants big and small across the United States, Taco Bell has felt the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, they have made the decision to simplify their menu. This will make things easier on employees and will also allow room for new items to come in the...

Perhaps this isn’t surprising since rare species, by their nature, are very hard to find. But capturing even a few minutes of them on camera can help transform our understanding of the rarest and most endangered creatures on Earth. The more footage scientists capture, the more they can improve their understanding of their needs and work to conserve the habitat they rely on. But for the public, a fleeting image is often enough to appreciate these animals just a little bit more. There’s something magical about...
By Karen Lema MANILA (Reuters) - At the peak of the Philippines' war on drugs, people in the rundown neighbourhoods of Navotas in the capital Manila grew used to police knocking on doors, or bursting into the homes of drug suspects - who often wound up dead. Now, many residents of the Navotas area, which has been particularly badly hit by the coronavirus, fear another harsh police campaign after the government said officials will visit homes of patients with mild or no symptoms and escort them to isolation centres. Some Filipinos have labelled the plan "Tokhang 2", calling it the sequel to a police-led anti-drug campaign that became synonymous with thousands of killings. "We are afraid of the house-to-house. Black Lives Matter is perhaps the most preeminent subject of public discourse on race relations in the United States. Its policy agenda on law enforcement and police reform has also received support from progressive activists and lawmakers. As Black Lives Matter’s political power has grown, however, their success in mainstreaming once radical ideas like police abolition has left law enforcement demoralized and often without adequate resources. Furthermore, the rise of Black Lives Matter and their ideas is correlated with an explosion in violent crime — particularly murder — nationwide. In Minneapolis, where the death of George Floyd in May sparked a wave of protests and riots across the country, more than 100 people have been shot since Floyd’s death, according...
Reuters July 15, 2020 0 Comments The Paycheck Protection Program appears to have thrown a critical safety net under U.S. middle and upper-middle-wage jobs, but it faltered when it comes to lower-paying positions and the industries hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic, according to a Reuters analysis of loan details. Analysis of data on nearly 4.9 million PPP loans released last week by the Trump administration showed the program, a subject of controversy because a number of larger well-connected borrowers tapped it even though it was designed to aid vulnerable small businesses, did partially hit its target. Separating U.S. industries into groups of around 60 each ranked by average annual pay, the Reuters analysis showed that employers in the...

New York City's wealthiest neighborhoods have some of the lowest response rates to the 2020 census after the coronavirus pandemic sent rich residents fleeing to the suburbs, leaving the streets of the Big Apple deserted. A report obtained by The New York Times shows the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown has hampered efforts to collect data from households across the city.   The low response rates appear to be more pronounced in Manhattan's richest areas, such as the Upper East Side and in Midtown, where the majority of people packed up and left for their vacation homes after stay-at-home orders were imposed in March. As of June 25, only 46 per cent of Upper East Side households have responded,...

Washington Redskins, (Photo by Jacob Kupferman/Getty Images) One realtor in Alexandria might have screwed Washington out of a new team name. The Washington Redskins, as of this morning, are no more, as the long-expected retiring of the 87-year-old moniker with racist undertones has finally been made official. Puzzlingly, in a press release that still used the Redskins’ logos and letterhead, Dan Snyder, who famously said he would never change the name, did not confirm what the team formerly known as the Redskins will be called in 2020. The reason behind this might be down to trademark issues thanks to one genius realtor in Virginia. Philip Martin McAuley, a realtor in Alexandria, trademarked over a dozen potential names that the Redskins...

Federal judges put a halt Monday to the Dakota Access Pipeline and Keystone XL, both of which received support from President Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign when he promoted energy production.  The companies behind a separate project — Atlantic Coast Pipeline — abandoned the pipeline on the same day after legal battles ballooned the price of the natural gas project, which was designed to carry gas across three states in the South.  The bad news for the energy industry comes despite Trump’s insistence during his 2016 campaign that he would make getting permits and licenses for such projects easier and less burdensome.  Three of the largest oil and gas projects in the country are on hold after...

I just don’t believe they’re being upheld.”...
LOS ANGELES, California — Mayor Eric Garcetti told a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon that the recent Black Lives Matter protests in the Los Angeles area were, in fact, partly responsible for a recent spike in coronavirus cases. “Some of the spread did come from our protests,” Garcetti admitted, in response to a question from Breitbart News. Garcetti had enthusiastically supported the protests and participated in them at close quarters, even removing his mask at one point to address a crowd. However, he had also warned demonstrators about the risk of COVID-19 at the protests. Those warnings appear to have been correct, as cases have spiked within the Los Angeles area in recent days, prompting a return to closures...

SACRAMENTO —  Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday signed into law the key provisions of a new state budget, a spending plan that seeks to erase a historic deficit while preserving service levels for schools, healthcare and social services. The $202.1-billion budget, a blueprint for the fiscal year that begins on Wednesday, is unlikely to be the final effort to address the economic impacts of the state’s COVID-19 pandemic. A handful of budget-related items remain pending in the California Legislature, and lawmakers may revisit funding levels once a more clear picture of tax receipts develops after July 15. “In the face of a global pandemic that has also caused a recession across the world and here in California, our state has...

A new virus strain found in China has many scientists concerned about the potential for another pandemic. The new strain of the flu virus was recently spotted in pigs, but researchers believe the virus can transfer into humans. Researchers said that the virus has "all the hallmarks" of other pandemic-causing viruses in that it could be highly infectious in humans and there could be no known immunity as the virus is new to humans. Researchers have been preparing for an influenza-type pandemic, despite the respiratory coronavirus pandemic that the world continues to battle. They believe that this virus strain, which they've named G4 EA H1N1, is similar to the swine flu virus that spread in 2008. The strain...
