The dust-up comes as the country continues to be ravaged by coronavirus, with more than 150,000 US citizens dead and more than 4 million cases. President Donald Trump on Monday railed against what he called an 'illegal late night coup' in Nevada that he characterized as an attempt to 'steal' the election as pundits warn it could take a week or more to know November's results thanks to mail-in voting. Lawmakers in Nevada on Sunday passed a bill to have November's vote be conducted by all mail-in ballots. The governor is expected to sign it, meaning Nevada will join several other states that have taken that option as a way to combat the coronavirus epidemic.  Trump and Republicans have warned that such moves will lead to voter fraud despite repeated studies that show that is not the case. The president decried Nevada's move in a...

(CNN)China is going to do what China is going to do.Its decision to impose a draconian new security law in Hong Kong marks the culmination of a multi-generational crusade to reassert full control over the former British colony. This is a watershed in international relations, proof that Beijing is now sufficiently confident of its own power to accept the global consequences.Washington and Brussels had warned China that going ahead could trigger grave diplomatic and economic repercussions. Former White House national security adviser John Bolton accused President Donald Trump of ignoring the early warning signs of the coronavirus pandemic because of the impact it could have on a trade deal with China. “I think there is an empty chair in the Oval Office, because the president did not want to hear bad news about his friend Xi Jinping,” Bolton told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday on “The Situation Room,” referring to the chinese president. “He did not want to hear bad news about the cover-up of the virus in China, or its potential effect on the much-desired...
Thousands of people ignored warnings from health experts, flocking to the beaches in the United Kingdom on the hottest day of the year so far. Officials in several towns have now declared a "major incident" and called on the government for help.  Temperatures surged past 30 degrees Celsius, or 86 degrees Fahrenheit, in England on Thursday — a major heatwave for the region. The council that covers Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole on the country's southern coast activated a multi-agency emergency response to deal with the issue.  "We are absolutely appalled at the scenes witnessed on our beaches, particularly at Bournemouth and Sandbanks, in the last 24-48 hours," BCP Council Leader Vikki Slade said in a statement. By KEVIN FREKING and JONATHAN LEMIRE TULSA, Okla. (AP) — President Donald Trump ignored health warnings and pressed ahead Saturday with a comeback rally in the midst of a pandemic, but what was meant to be a show of defiant political force was instead met with thousands of empty seats and new coronavirus cases on his own campaign staff. The rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was intended to be the largest indoor gathering in the world during the outbreak that has killed more than 120,000 Americans, put 40 million more out of work and upended Trump’s reelection bid. But in the hours before the event, crowds seemed significantly lighter than expected. Campaign officials scrapped plans for Trump to first address an...

Police commissioner Dermot Shea has admonished politicians and the public for trafficking in “rumors” while criticizing the NYPD’s response to city unrest — but hasn’t held himself to the same standard, a Post investigation found. “We are living in a toxic time. One that relies increasingly on the selective use of a combination of things: some facts, misinformation, rumor, false conclusions that can be drawn from all of them, sometimes spill over into social media or mainstream media,” Police Commissioner Dermot Shea Thursday. Shea’s condemnation came just hours before police cracked down on a Bronx demonstration described by reporters as peaceful just after the 8 p.m. curfew — and despite Shea’s previous claims that police could go into protests “like...
